Next-Generation Biometric Access Control and Time and Attendance Terminals
Methode was approached to redesign an existing product line for an industry-leading supplier of high-quality and rich function biometric access control and time and attendance terminals.
Our development team created easy-to-manufacture products with state-of-the-art user interfaces, well within the price range of the existing product line.
The customer's existing range of products did not significantly stand out from the competition or adequately project the quality and functionality the market required. These issues made it increasingly difficult to grow its business with their biometric access control and time and attendance product line. The customer decided to redesign its product line with a focus on improving appearance, functionality and modularity. In addition, the customer sought to reduce its inventory that consisted of multiple terminal versions to meet a wide variety of customer-required functions. Intrigued by our combination of field-effect touch-sensitive solid-state digital switches, touch-screen technologies, and Biometric MSI® Fingerprint Reader, the customer approached Methode to design its next-generation terminals. Our development team took on the challenge and created easy-to-manufacture products with state-of-the-art user interfaces well within the price range of the existing product line.
Methode integrated its TouchSensor™ user interface terminal design, Biometric MSI Fingerprint Reader and third-party identification devices into aesthetically pleasing modular attachments that couple seamlessly with the customers' main base unit design. Greatly reducing inventory costs, one terminal design is used for the three base units that perform all access control and time and attendance biometric functions including, facial recognition and finger, palm, magnetic swipe and proximity card reading. By using Methode's rugged Projected Capacitive Touch Screen Technology (ITO), the operator can easily enroll directly into the database and choose various functions via the on screen menu. The field-effect touch-sensitive backlit function buttons, using propriety TS100 ICs, add to the terminal's versatility while increasing reliability. The two "Touch" technologies, together with Methode's industrial and aesthetic design, have created a line of products that visually differentiates the customer products from the competitors and fully projects the quality and functionality of a market leader in this industry.
