Terminators
Standard systems require a terminator at the beginning and end of the SCSI
chain. It is important to note that many manufacturers provide on-board
termination, via a series of resistor packs on the controller card or device.
The terminators are mainly used as a 'damper' to reduce noise and chatter by
keeping signals from bouncing off one end of the cable and rippling back and
interfering with new messages.
There are many different types of
terminator circuits. The main five are:
- Passive (also know as
single-ended)
- Active (also known as
regulated)
- Active Negation
- Differential
- Differential LVD
Some of the types listed below are not
ANSI approved styles, each offering a unique way to eliminate potential data
errors/faults on the SCSI bus.
- SLICK
